Final closure, detour for US-31 Manistee bascule bridge project Oct. 28-Nov. 4

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Contractors for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will install replacement rivets and complete a final structural concrete pour on the US-31 Manistee bascule bridge, work which will require closing the bridge to traffic with a detour. This is expected to be the final work requiring a closure and detour on the $12.6 million project to replace portions of the bridge deck, upgrade the bridge's mechanical and electrical systems, repair and paint the bridge's structural steel, and improve the bridge approaches.
Other remaining work includes window and door replacements in the operator house, along with touch-up painting.
