M-139 reopening today in Berrien County as culvert replacement project is completed
October 25, 2024
COLOMA, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Kalin Construction Company Inc. are completing work to replace the concrete box culvert for the Big Meadow Drain tributary and reopening M-139 today between Scottdale Road and John Beers Road.
Work started in May to replace the large box culvert under M-139 but was delayed by several heavy rain events and poor soil. Now that it's complete, the new culvert will increase the waterway opening for the Big Meadow Drain tributary for more natural creek flow and less obstruction.
Crews will be completing clean-up work in the work zone, as well as slope restoration, and final grading.
Based on economic modeling, this $3.1 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 38 jobs.
