I-196 reopening today in Van Buren County for the winter
October 30, 2024
COLOMA, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is wrapping up work on the Rogers Creek box culvert replacement under I-196 in Van Buren County. All lanes of I-196 near the culvert are reopening today for the winter.
Progress on the three-year, $9.2 million culvert rebuilding project took a few weeks longer than anticipated due to fabrication complications with the concrete box culvert.
Work will resume in March 2025 to complete the culvert under the northbound lanes, between mile markers 8 and 10. The project is expected to be completed in late October 2025. The new culvert will improve natural creek flow and has an expected lifespan of 50-100 years.
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 131 jobs.
