I-696 Update: All eastbound and westbound lanes open between I-275 and Lahser Road in Oakland County
November 27, 2024
NOVI, Mich. – All lanes of eastbound and westbound I-696 have reopened to traffic between I-275 and Lahser Road, along with all on and off ramps.
Barrels will remain on the shoulders for signage and additional punch list work will continue until the end of the year. Crews will return in spring/summer 2025 for punch list work, pavement markings and landscape work.
This $275 million I-696 Restore the Reuther investment has included rebuilding the roadway from the base up, including storm sewer replacement and rebuilding the ramps at Orchard Lake Road, American Drive, Franklin Road, and US-24 (Telegraph Road).
Project details can be found at DrivingOakland.com.
Funding for this project was made possible by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improve the condition of the state's infrastructure.
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 3,328 jobs.
There will also be a new I-696 project to rebuild the freeway from Lahser Road to I-75 starting in 2025 for approximately three years. More details will be released in early 2025.
