Superload transport in eastern U.P. set for July 22

ESCANABA, Mich. - Drivers traveling between Escanaba and Cedarville early in the morning on July 22 can expect delays. A large dump truck component will be transported to Port Dolomite in Cedarville.

Under a permit from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), contractors will move an oversized load from Escanaba to Cedarville. The move is planned to occur from 12:01 to 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, to minimize traffic impacts. The transport is weather dependent.

The load will travel from Power Plant Road in Escanaba via eastbound US-2, northbound M-117, eastbound M-28, southbound M-129 and eastbound Swede Road to northbound Quarry Road in Cedarville.

Traffic delays will occur as the haul rig blocks lanes, traveling at low speeds. Michigan State Police will be escorting the oversize load and assisting with traffic control during the operation. Traffic will be stopped ahead of and behind the load.

MDOT encourages motorists to avoid the area during the move. If you are in the area, drive cautiously and heed all directions from law enforcement.
