US-12 (Michigan Avenue) improvement projects in Dearborn, Detroit begin week of July 28
July 25, 2025
DEARBORN/DETROIT, Mich. - Beginning the week of July 28, two projects will begin on eastbound and westbound US-12 (Michigan Avenue) between Greenfield Road and Cecil Avenue in Dearborn and Detroit with lane and intersection closures. In addition, westbound US-12 (Michigan Avenue) will have the right lane closed at Lawndale Street beginning 5 a.m. Monday, July 28, while emergency crews fix a void under the road.
"Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. "By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."
Dearborn
- Starting the week of July 28, eastbound and westbound US-12 (Michigan Avenue) will have single-lane closures between Greenfield Road and I-94 with at least one lane open in each direction through late 2025.
- The specific start date will be determined early in the week.
- These closures will be lifted during most of the Dearborn Homecoming Festival (3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 - 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4).
This work is part of a $4.5 million investment to resurface 1.7 miles of pavement, along with joint repairs, American with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps and pavement markings. Improvements will also be made at the US-12/Wyoming Avenue carpool lot.
Detroit
- Eastbound and westbound US-12 (Michigan Avenue) will have lane closures between I-94 and Cecil Avenue through early September, with at least one lane open in each direction. Prep work for this segment is expected to begin the week of July 28 and construction work to begin Monday, August 4.
This maintenance work is part of a $1 million investment to resurface 1.4 miles of pavement, along with joint repairs, ADA ramps and pavement markings.
Based on economic modeling, this overall $5.5 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 52 jobs.
