Nighttime US-10 closures begin March 18 for M-30 bridge demolition in Sanford

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing $7.3 million to demolish and replace the M-30 bridge over US-10 in Sanford. As a part of the demolition process, MDOT will close US-10 nightly to allow for the safe removal of the bridge deck and beams.

Traffic restrictions:
Westbound US-10 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Tuesday, March 18, and ending the morning of Thursday, March 20. Traffic will be detoured via northbound M-30, westbound Curtis Road and southbound M-18 back to US-10.
Eastbound US-10 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Thursday, March 20, and ending the morning of Friday, March 21. Eastbound US-10 will then close again from 7 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday. Traffic will be detoured via northbound M-18, eastbound Curtis Road, southbound M-30, eastbound Shaffer Road, and southbound Stark Road back to US-10.
M-30 will be closed over US-10 starting Monday, March 17, for the duration of this project. Southbound M-30 traffic will be detoured via westbound US-10, southbound W. River Road and eastbound US-10 back to southbound M-30. Northbound traffic will detoured via eastbound US-10, northbound Stark Road and westbound US-10 back to northbound M-30.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 70 jobs.
Safety benefit:
Closing US-10 during demolition work is being done to allow crews to safely work on demolishing the structure, as well as preserve driver safety.
