Audiologists - My Role

Audiologists are instrumental in every stage of a newborn hearing screening program, from designing and implementing screening protocols to determining hearing status and guiding families through the next steps. Their expertise helps identify hearing loss early, allowing for timely intervention and support that can significantly impact a child's development.

Audiology involvement typically includes the following aspects:

  • Hearing screening program implementation and oversight
  • Education for healthcare personnel who conduct hearing screenings.
  • Selection of screening techniques
  • Monitor equipment calibration and maintenance to ensure accurate results
  • Implementation of diagnostic test battery to determine hearing status and/or coordinating assessments at a pediatric diagnostic facility.
  • Counseling and Support for Families
  • Referral to Early Intervention Services
  • Data Collection and Reporting to EHDI
  • Quality Assurance of the newborn hearing screening program
