When children are in crisis, it is important to know where to go for help. This section has information about suicide prevention, mental health crisis supports, hospitals and emergency services. Calling 9-1-1 is always appropriate for a severe medical or mental health emergency.

State Operated Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitals

The State of Michigan operates five inpatient hospitals for individuals who have severe mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS)

Community Mental Health Service Providers (CMHSP) have, or are developing, Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS). This Medicaid covered service is intended to help children and families get through crisis situations, including figuring out the next steps to access mental health services.
