Mission and Priorities
As a multidisciplinary body housed within MDHHS, the Task Force brings together experts across sectors—healthcare, law enforcement, education, community organizations, and more—to address the complex and preventable issue of gun violence.
Guided by equity and informed by evidence, the Task Force has identified key priorities for its work:
- Expanding access to secure firearm storage and suicide prevention education
- Strengthening statewide data infrastructure and reporting
- Supporting community-driven approaches to violence prevention
- Enhancing school safety policies and practices
- Improving implementation of Michigan’s new firearm safety laws
As the Task Force continues its work, it remains committed to centering those most impacted and collaborating across sectors to build a safer future for all Michigan residents.
