Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BHLRP)
Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BHLRP) Overview
The MDHHS Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program (BHLRP), previously known as the MI Kids Now Loan Repayment Program (MKN LRP), is a medical education debt repayment program focused on incentivizing behavioral health care providers to practice in underserved areas in Michigan. Eligible providers will receive student loan repayment for providing mental health services in eligible nonprofit, outpatient practice sites, or public school-based systems. The program has a two-year service obligation.
2026 BHLRP Program Cycle
The 2026 (FY27) Application Cycle will open on Monday, May 11th, 2026, and will close on Friday, May 29th, 2026
PLEASE NOTE: Eligibility criteria, application instructions, and selection process for the 2026 (FY27) Cycle of the MDHHS Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program have now changed. Please review all program materials below for further information.
FOR 2026 APPLICANTS: The BHLRP Program Office will now be accepting applications via the MDHHS Primary Care Application Portal. Beginning on Monday, May 11th, 2026, applicants will be able to complete the online application questionnaire, as well as upload their completed application materials, via the new online portal. This portal replaces the use of the State of Michigan’s (SOM) File Transfer Area System, as well as the previous BHLRP Online Application System.
As with previous cycles, all applicants will still need to complete the required application materials (provided below), but will now upload these materials into the new MDHHS Primary Care Application Portal. All application forms should be completed ahead of the application cycle, as most forms will need to be sent to external agencies for completion. As it may take several weeks to receive these forms back, we recommend that all applicants begin working to complete these forms as soon as possible. For further information, please review the BHLRP Program Guidance & Application Instructions Packet below.
Access to the new portal system will open at 12:00AM EST on Monday, May 11th , 2026, and will close at 11:59PM EST on Friday, May 29th, 2026.
In order to access the new MDHHS Primary Care Application System, all applicants will need to request access via the State of Michigan’s MiLogin Portal. Please follow the instructions below in order to register with MiLogin and request access to the MDHHS Primary Care Portal. Users who have previously created an account with the State of Michigan’s MiLogin will not need to register for a new account, but will still need to request access to the new portal area.
