MSU Geocoder
The MSU Geocoder allows you to find a radial distance between two locations. The Department will utilize the geocoder when determining the distance between two sites as required in the various review standards. The following are basic instructions to the geocoder:
- Open an Excel spreadsheet and copy the proposed address (the facility that you are measuring the distance from). Make sure to copy the address, city, state, and zip code. Acceptable delimiters between address entries are commas, tabs, or spaces.
- Paste the copied address into the Proposed Address box on the geocoder webpage.
- Copy the address(es) of the existing facility (the facility that you are measuring the distance to). The geocoder can handle up to 10 addresses in a single query.
- Paste the copied address(es) into the Existing Facility Address box on the geocoder webpage.
- Select the desired distance units and then click Geocode.
- Verify all addresses for accuracy, as the address formats may change in the geocoding process.
- Click button for data that can be copied/pasted back into a spreadsheet.
