Tax Preparer Identity Theft
An Identity Theft Unit agent investigated fraudulent FAP applications submitted with stolen identities and discovered that a tax preparer with access to the personal information of the victims was the perpetrator of the scheme which resulted in the theft of more than $70,000 in FAP benefits. The perpetrator was charged with several felony crimes, and the case is pending in court.
