Regional Town Hall Meetings

Regional Town Hall Meetings

Regional Town Hall meetings provide opportunities to uplift the voices of communities. Attendees offer their feedback and thoughts on maternal and infant health services, policies and systems along with challenges and strengths in their communities..

The valuable feedback received in these meetings helps inform and align efforts to improve health outcomes and work towards zero health disparities. The important information obtained during the Town Halls is used to inform the Advancing Healthy Births plan, MDHHS programs, as well as efforts of the Division of Maternal and Infant Health and Regional Perinatal Quality Collaboratives

2024 Community & Family Town Halls

Michigan’s Regional Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (RPQCs), in partnership with the Division of Maternal and Infant Health, have successfully hosted nine Community & Family Town Hall events throughout 2024. These in-person events, hosted by each respective RPQC in Michigan and spanning locations across the state, have provided valuable opportunities to uplift the voices of Michigan’s families and community members.

Rich discussions held at the Community & Family Town Hall meetings included regionally specific conversations about birthing experiences, challenges parents and families face and strengths of the communities. The feedback received informs the RPQCs about priorities within their regions and how to align efforts to improve health outcomes for pregnant people and families. Only through listening to the voices, lived experiences and input of families and community members can the RPQCs be meaningfully informed of the strengths and needs within the regions and throughout Michigan.

2023 Town Hall Meetings

Town Hall meetings were hosted by the Regional Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (RPQCs) in partnership with the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Maternal and Infant Health. Meetings were held statewide throughout each of Michigan’s Prosperity Regions. Approximately 500 diverse stakeholders, partners and families attended the twelve Town Hall meetings which were held in April and May 2023.

Common Themes Across All Regions

Throughout Michigan, communities emphasized the importance of uniform messaging, coordinated care, and improved awareness and access to existing resources and services. Families and stakeholders highlighted the necessity of expanding access to home visiting programs and ensuring inclusivity for all family structures, in addition to including men and fathers. Communities also acknowledged the increasing imperative to tackle social determinants of health, reduce stigma, and address unconscious biases.
