OVERVIEW: MINORITY HEALTH COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING COHORT

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Office of Equity and Minority Health (OEMH) in partnership with the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) are offering a unique opportunity for local community organizations to participate in the Minority Health Community Capacity Building (MHCCB) Training Cohort. The overall goal of the MHCCB training cohort is to build organizational capacity for local community-based entities to identify and successfully respond to State-Level and other funding opportunities that increase the knowledge of and improve access to financial resources that support development, implementation, and evaluation of targeted community-level strategies that address and improve minority health with a focus on the social determinants of health, systemic racism and decreasing health, healthcare disparities and other outcomes for racial ethnic minority populations. This Request for Applications is open to Grass-Roots Organizations, Community- and Faith-based Organizations, Tribal Councils, Community Health Centers, and other entities that have well-established connections to one or more of Michigan’s five racial and ethnic minority populations (Black or African American, Native American /Alaskan Native, Arab, and Chaldean American, Asian American and Pacific Islanders, Hispanic/Latinx) are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, 26 USC 501 and have a maximum operating budget of $250,000. MDHHS expects to support up to ten organizations with a total of $125,000 for grant awards across all ten organizations. Applicant organizations may select no more than two individuals per organization to participate in the MHCCB training cohort.

TRAINING COHORT AWARD RECIPIENTS:

Organizations who successfully complete the Minority Health Capacity Building Training Cohort will be invited to submit a funding proposal for implementation of the FY2025 Minority Health Community Capacity Building (MHCCB) Initiative.

MINORITY HEALTH COMMUNITY CAPACITY BUILDING (MHCCB) INITIATIVE Overview:

The MHCCB Initiative is a three-year funding opportunity designed to promote collaboration between Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Office of Equity and Minority Health, and local public health, tribal agencies, community- and faith-based organizations and other local entities to achieve health equity for Michigan’s racial and ethnic populations (African Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Arab and Chaldean Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and Hispanics/Latinos).

The goal of this funding is to support culturally and linguistically appropriate community-level projects that build capacity to identify and implement programs, policies, and applied research to address social determinants of health that contribute to health inequities for racial and ethnic minority populations in Michigan.
