Celebrating 75 years of “Hearing Laughter and Seeing Smiles” in 2024
For 75 years, Michigan Public Health has provided hearing and vision screening services to children throughout the State. Since 1949, the programs have served over 50 million children through standardized screenings and a formal referral process.
A cornerstone of the MDHHS Hearing and Vision Screening Programs is the continued follow-up conducted to ensure that children who have been referred get the care and treatment they need. A screening program is of little value if those referred do not get examinations and care.
Plans are under way in 2024 to commemorate and honor the history of the programs and the work carried out by the hearing and vision technicians employed in local public health departments.
