Newborn Screening Announcements
Please see the following announcements:
Effective January 1, 2026, the fee for first and repeat newborn screenings will be increasing. The fee for a first sample test card will be $183.19 (from $174.61) and the fee for a repeat sample card will be $167.00 (from $158.63). Please see this letter for more information.
Upcoming Expiration Date of Cards
Please check your inventory for first and repeat sample cards are expiring on August 31, 2025. The expiration date is on the middle right side of the NBS card (see image below). It is important to check the supply in all areas where cards are stored, as well as outpatient labs or satellite clinics where newborn screens are collected at your hospital. Any expired cards that are used for collection of a screen will automatically be considered unsatisfactory and a repeat specimen will be needed from the family.
Unused expired cards should be returned for replacement by completing the “Newborn Screening Card Replacement Form”. The NBS Card Replacement Form is located at Michigan.gov/NewbornScreening under the “Resources for Hospitals and Health Professionals” section in the “Forms” section. Click here for a direct link for mailing replacement form. We have added a fax option for future requests for replacement cards. Click here for direct link for faxing replacement form.
