Infectious Diseases

Infectious diseases are illnesses caused by harmful microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, that can spread from person to person or through contaminated sources.

MDHHS promotes and protects the health of Michigan residents through comprehensive disease surveillance, outbreak response, and prevention strategies, closely with partners at the local, state, federal, and international levels to identify and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
