MDHHS issues Request for Proposal for Trauma System Data Linkages grant
For Immediate Release: June 10, 2016
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to improve the coordination of trauma care data. The grantee will be awarded up to $600,000 for a three-year project to begin in September, 2016.
The linkage of records among electronic databases has become an increasingly important in managing, monitoring, assessing and reviewing a range of service areas. This information can be used to provide insights into significant health issues and improve service delivery. The ability to link trauma care data in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with trauma care data in acute care hospitals is of particular interest in the development of a statewide trauma system in Michigan.
The State of Michigan has an established electronic patient care record for EMS called the Michigan Emergency Medical Services Information System (Mi-EMSIS). Additionally, the State of Michigan Trauma System has established a registry to aggregate data on all trauma patients, per the National Trauma Data Standard.
Through this project, stakeholders in Michigan will have the opportunity to design, implement and evaluate a project that links the Michigan Emergency Medical Services Information System (Mi-EMSIS) patient care data and the State of Michigan Trauma Registry data. The project should serve as a model for statewide implementation.
To apply for the Michigan Trauma System Deterministic Data Linkages grant, visit the MI E-Grants website. All applications are due July 13, 2016. Any questions concerning the content of this RFP must be sent via email to Eileen Worden, State Trauma Manager at wordene@michigan.gov on or before June 22, 2016. MDHHS will compile all relevant questions and answers and post these as well as any other clarifications or revisions to the initial RFP by June 27, 2016, on the MI E-Grants website.
The MDHHS Bureau of EMS, Trauma & Preparedness is committed to exploring and supporting initiatives that enhance the delivery of quality care to the injured patient from pre-hospital to definitive care.
