Nominations will be accepted until Friday, July 19. The award, sponsored by the Office of Services to the Aging and the Michigan State Fair, recognizes persons 60 and older in the areas of service and leadership. Michigan Office of Services to the Aging Director Lynn Alexander today encouraged individuals to submit their nominations for the 2002 Senior Citizen of the Year award.
"Past winners of this annual award have come from very diverse backgrounds but all strive to be of service to their peers and their community." "Michigan is home to many active seniors committed to helping others and to building our communities," said Alexander.
Awards will be presented on Senior Citizens Day at the Michigan State Fair, Monday, August 26. Winners will receive a cash award made possible by Consumers Energy Company.
"This award is an opportunity to highlight those contributions, and we are pleased to have this long-standing partnership with the Office of Services to the Aging in sponsoring this award." "The wisdom, knowledge, and dedication seniors contribute is immeasurable," added State Fair General Manager John Hertel.
The forms must be postmarked no later than Friday, July 19. Nomination forms are available from the Office of Services to the Aging by calling (517) 373-8230 or through any of the 16 local Area Agencies on Aging. Nominations must be submitted by an organization.
