The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing (BCAL) issued an order of summary suspension and notice of intent to revoke the license of an Ingham County adult foster care small group home licensee, Butler Service Corporation, Whispering Pines, #AM330008418, 3011 Turner Street, Lansing, Mich. This action resulted from a recent investigation of a complaint of the adult foster care small group home.
The November 11, 2010, complaint investigation found violations of the Adult Foster Care Facility Licensing Act and administrative rules regarding resident care and protection. BCAL took emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of vulnerable adults.
Effective 6:00 p.m., November 15, 2010, the summary suspension order prohibits Butler Service Corporation from operating an adult foster care small group home at 3011 Turner Street, Lansing, Mich., or at any other address or location. Accordingly, it may not accept physically handicapped, developmentally disabled, mentally ill and aged adults for care after that date and time. The order also requires Butler Service Corporation to inform all of the guardians of adults in its care that its license has been suspended and that it can no longer provide adult foster care.
Butler Service Corporation has held a license to operate an adult foster care small group home since November 7, 1984. The license was for 12 adults.
Michigan law defines an adult foster care small group home as "an adult foster care facility with the approved capacity to receive 12 or fewer adults to be provided with foster care."
