Community-Based Aging Services Approved for 2012

) and Commission on Services to the Aging are pleased to announce that plans for local aging programs throughout the state have been approved for the 2012 fiscal year, beginning Oct. 1. Each year Michigan's 16 Area Agencies on Aging submit plans for state approval showing how federal and state funds will be used for community-based services and supports for older residents.  Plans were approved for the following Area Agencies on Aging:


  • Detroit Area Agency on Aging: serving Detroit, the Grosse Pointes, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park

  • Area Agency on Aging 1-B: serving Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw counties

  • The Senior Alliance, Inc.: serving all of Wayne County, excluding areas served by Detroit Area Agency on Aging

  • Region 2 Area Agency on Aging: serving Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee counties

  • Region 3-A Area Agency on Aging: serving Kalamazoo County

  • Region 3-B Area Agency on Aging: serving Barry, Calhoun counties

  • Branch/St. Joseph Area Agency on Aging III-C: serving Branch, St. Joseph counties

  • Region IV Area Agency on Aging, Inc.: serving Berrien, Cass, Van Buren counties

  • Valley Area Agency on Aging: serving Genesee, Lapeer, Shiawassee counties

  • Tri-County Office on Aging: serving Clinton, Eaton, Ingham counties

  • Region VII Area Agency on Aging: serving Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron, Isabella, Midland,  Saginaw, Sanilac, Tuscola counties

  • Area Agency on Aging of Northwest MI: serving Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska,  Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, Wexford counties

  • UP Area Agency on Aging: serving Alger, Baraga, Chippewa, Delta, Dickinson, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, Luce, Mackinac, Marquette, Menominee, Ontonagon, Schoolcraft counties
  • Senior Resources: serving Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa counties

These plans outline local program priorities, describe goals and strategies for accomplishing them, and summarize comments received at public hearings. Information and assistance, care management, nutrition, disease prevention, home care, transportation, and legal assistance are among funded programs that significantly contribute to the quality of life for older residents.
