Allen Jansen Named New Interim Director of Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital
October 24, 2014
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) today named Allen Jansen as the new interim director of Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital.
Jansen, who most recently served as the corporate director of community and residential services at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, will head Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital on an interim basis while MDCH completes its search for a permanent, fulltime director.
“The department is focused on providing quality patient care at Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital,” said Nick Lyon, director of the MDCH. “We are taking the necessary steps to protect the safety of our patients and employees. I’m confident Allen’s leadership will help in this transition.”
As interim director, Jansen will oversee daily operations including management, administration, human resources, and patient care. Jansen is anticipated to hold this position until late December, when he will return from his leave of absence to Pine Rest.
During his tenure at Pine Rest, Jansen oversaw a major initiative to become a trauma-informed organization to reduce seclusion and restraint for residents, while increasing the safety and training of staff.
Previously, Jansen served as the executive director at Hope Network Behavioral Health Services. His experience also includes work with Kent County Community Mental Health, where he was the director of mental health services.
Jansen currently serves as a board member for the Mental Health Foundation, the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, and the Michigan Federation for Families and Children.
Jansen is taking over for Cynthia Kelly who will return fulltime to her position as director of the Bureau of State Hospitals and Behavioral Administrative Services. Kelly had served in both capacities since May. The department will continue to interview for the permanent, fulltime position during Jansen’s tenure at Kalamazoo.
