LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services today announced that Nancy Vreibel will be the department’s new chief deputy director.
Vreibel, of St. Johns, has 40 years of experience in state government. She is former budget division director for the Michigan Department of Community Health and has been director of appropriations for the chairpersons of the Michigan Senate Appropriations Committee since 2007.
“Nancy is highly respected and her expertise will be invaluable to the department as we continue providing health and human services to meet the unique needs of the individuals that we serve,” said MDHHS Director Nick Lyon. “I expect a seamless transition and I look forward to Nancy joining the MDHHS team as we work on behalf of Michiganders.”
Vreibel worked for the Department of Community Health from 2002 until starting her position with the Senate in 2007. While with the department, she was budget division director from 2002 to 2006. In 2002 she also was deputy director of strategic budget initiatives, serving in a dual assignment with the Michigan State Budget Office.
Before coming to the Department of Community Health, she held a variety of positions in the State House, including chief budget analyst and House Republican Majority policy director.
Vreibel has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University’s School of Social Science, with majors in political science, social science and economics. She and her husband Dan have two adult children.
Former Chief Deputy Director Tim Becker left MDHHS July 8 to become executive vice president of Hope Network.
Vreibel starts her new position July 18.
