Physical Activity for Cancer Survivors - 8/10/2021
- Trina Radske-Suchan & Jennifer Nicodemus
Physical activity is important for most people and can be safe before, during, and after cancer treatment. However, some people don't have the resources to join a gym or take a class. The good news is that there are free or low-cost programs that are evidence based.
- Walk with Ease: Is low cost, has no geographic limitations, and can be done at home. It was developed by the Arthritis Foundation but the program is helpful to all adults, including those with a chronic disease.
- LIVESTRONG at the YMCA: Is available for free and was developed specifically for people with cancer. This program is available in several areas of the state.
Advanced Care Planning - 6/17/2021
- MDHHS & Dr. Carol F. Robinson, DNP, RN, CHPN
Every person should be empowered to advocate for their personal healthcare treatment preferences. Further, those preferences should be honored by their healthcare team. How does one think about and communicate preferences regarding what matters most to them to live life well? How does a person choose a person they trust to share their preferences for care if they are unable to advocate for themselves? In this session, Dr. Robinson will share strategies to help participants clarify "What Matters Most," how to share your preferences for care with those most important to you, and how to choose a good patient advocate.

Understanding & Treating Financial Toxicity in Oncology Setting - 2/22/2021
- MDHHS & The NaVectis Group
Cancer related financial burden has become a widespread problem affecting quality of life, treatment adherence and emotional wellbeing. In fact, financial distress is in the top three stressors that oncology patients suffer from. Not unlike the physical side effects associated with treatments, cancer treatments often result in the another side effect known as financial toxicity. As providers are concerned about the potential side effects of treatments, they should equally consider the devastation that financial toxicity has on their patient population.
