Michigan Stroke Dashboards: Stroke Risk Factor Prevalence, Hospitalization Rates, and Mortality Rates

The Michigan Stroke Program (MiSP) has developed an interactive dashboard that allows the public to assess the stroke burden in Michigan.

The dashboard below includes information on six primary stroke risk factors, stroke hospitalization, and mortality rates. Data is summarized in a variety of ways, including maps, trend lines, and bar charts. This dashboard includes data from 2011-2025 among individuals living in the state of Michigan. This dashboard includes nine tabs; the first tab examines the six most common risk factors reported by adults in Michigan and their demographic characteristics associated with stroke risk; the second tab includes hospitalization and mortality rates description; the third tab displays trend lines from 2017-2024 (3- year combined) age-adjusted hospitalization and mortality rates for all Michigan residents as well as by demographics; the fourth tab displays the age-adjusted stroke hospitalization rates per 10,000 and mortality rates per 100,000 Michigan residents by county (3-year combined); the fifth and sixth tabs display the age-adjusted stroke hospitalization rates per 10,000 Michigan residents by county (3-year combined) for white vs Black males and females. The seventh and eighth tabs display the age-adjusted stroke mortality rates per 100,000 Michigan residents by county (3-year combined) for white vs Black males and females.

The dashboard's final tab (labeled "Q&A") provides information to contact the MiSP team.

For more information about this dashboard, or if you need accessibility assistance reading any of the materials on this or other Michigan Stroke Program webpages, please contact the MiSP team at MDHHS-Stroke@michigan.gov.

Download Excel (.xlsx) files for these data

This file contains prevalence data for risk factors associated with an increased risk of stroke, including high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol, low physical activity (exercise), and weight status (overweight and obese). Each risk factor can be compared across demographic characteristics, including age, gender, race, and household income. This file contains data as well from the stroke hospitalization and the mortality maps embedded in the dashboard. The hospitalization information contains county-level data that reflect rates per 10,000 residents. The mortality sheet contains county-level data that reflect rates per 100,000 residents. The state rates sheet contains data on the 3-year combined trends of stroke mortality and stroke hospitalization rates broken down by race and sex.
