Doula RISE: Doula Reimbursement for Independent Skill Enhancement
Doula RISE Application and Doula RISE FAQ Guidance
The MDHHS Doula Initiative is excited to announce Doula RISE! This opportunity allows Medicaid-enrolled doulas to receive reimbursement for professional development and skill enhancement. Funding is available to support registration fees for trainings completed between October 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026 within the following categories:
- Advanced Doula Skill
- Training must be within one of these topics:
- Spinning Babies®
- The NICU Translator
- Rebozo
- Belly Binding
- Training must be within one of these topics:
- Birth, Postpartum or Full Spectrum Doula
- Not required to be an MDHHS-Approved Doula Training or Organization option.
- Business Practice
- Childbirth Education
- Lactation Support
- Pregnancy and Infancy Loss Support
Funding Details
- Up to $1,500 reimbursement toward registration fees of eligible trainings completed between October 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026.
- Additional costs for travel, study materials, testing fees and other expenses associated with training do not qualify for reimbursement.
- Each Medicaid-enrolled doula can receive reimbursement for up to two trainings (maximum of $1,500 per training).
- Training completion certificate and receipt documenting payment of registration fee must be submitted to receive reimbursement.
- If submitting an application for a training that has already occurred, the application and required documentation can be submitted together.
- Reimbursement will be provided through SIGMA Vendor Self Service (VSS).
- It is recommended to enroll in electronic funds transfer (EFT) to avoid payment delays.
Application Process
- Submit completed Doula RISE application to MDHHS-MIDoula@michigan.gov.
- Email Subject Line: “Doula RISE: [Doula Name]”
- Application must be submitted as email attachment (.doc or .pdf).
- Document links and photos will not be accepted.
- Email Subject Line: “Doula RISE: [Doula Name]”
- Doula Initiative will respond with pre-approval within five business days.
- Final approval is contingent on receipt of required documentation.
- Submit required documentation to MDHHS-MIDoula@michigan.gov upon completion of training.
- Email Subject Line: “Doula RISE Docs: [Doula Name]”
- Certificate of completion.
- Receipt documenting payment of registration fee.
- Email Subject Line: “Doula RISE Docs: [Doula Name]”
- Doula Initiative will respond with final approval.
- Reimbursement will be received approximately eight weeks after submitting required documentation.
Submission Deadlines
- All Doula RISE applications must be submitted by August 17, 2026.
- All required documentation must be submitted by August 31, 2026.
- Please confirm with training organization that you will receive a certificate of completion prior to August 31, 2026.
