Employment Success Story: Zachery Mondlak

Where do you work, and how long have you worked there?

"I currently work at Alma College. I started working there this past August!"

What parts of your job do you enjoy the most?

"I enjoy working with friendly colleagues and those who believe employing a disabled faculty member is important!"

Can you share a moment when you felt proud of your contributions at work?

"I am proud when a student has an "aha" moment. There are too many of those to count!"

Can you describe how your employment has improved your life outside of work?

"Being employed has provided me an opportunity to wrap up the work on my Ph.D. without too many other concerns."

What advice would you give to people with disabilities looking for a job in their community?

"Be transparent about your strengths and weaknesses in an interview. Don't be discouraged if they don't reach out after the interview. Keep going!"

What advice would you give to employers wanting to hire people with disabilities?

"Be aware of ADA policies meant to accommodate employees. I've had too many instances where employers know such a procedure exists but have no idea how it is done at all. Sometimes it may be weeks before I get a response back on an accommodation request."
