Activities, events around the state lead up to April 18 gathering at the Capitol
LANSING, Mich. — Children Trust Michigan is recognizing the importance of preventing child abuse and neglect with a month of activities that will culminate with a special ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, at the State Capitol.
Activities and initiatives planned throughout Michigan as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month will center on the symbolic blue-and-silver pinwheel of Prevent Child Abuse America, which serves as a visual representation that everyone plays a role in providing children with a bright future. Participants have been asked to share information on social media, using the hashtags #CAPmonth2023 and #MIWearsBlue.
“The pinwheel is a powerful reminder of the innocence of childhood and why it is so important to ensure that every child in Michigan has the safe, healthy and happy childhood they deserve,” said Suzanne Greenberg, executive director of Children Trust Michigan. “That’s why we encourage everyone across the state this April to help raise awareness about the impact child abuse and neglect has on each of us so we can work together toward securing a stronger future for Michigan’s children.”
Child Abuse Prevention Month culminates with the 15th annual Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Day rally on the steps of the State Capitol. Featured speakers this year include Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Attorney General Dana Nessel, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Elizabeth Hertel, Rep. Bryan Posthumus and Fatima Salman, president of the National Association of Social Workers.
