Good morning/afternoon,

As someone who cares about the health and well-being of babies, I wanted to share with you that an image that you have on/in your _________ (fill in-website, newsletter, flyer, etc.) is cute, but it depicts a sleep environment that is unsafe for infants. The image shows _______________ (fill in-description of the image and what is unsafe. For example, "The image shows a baby sleeping with a blanket" or "The image shows the baby sharing a sleep surface with an adult.") The American Academy of Pediatrics Recommendations for Infant Sleep Safety note that images portraying unsafe sleep practices can lead to caregivers being confused about what is and isn't safe infant sleep.

This is important because in Michigan alone, a baby dies every 2 to 3 days from an unsafe sleep environment. You can help save babies' lives by supporting safe sleep and using images of infants that depict safe sleep. Fortunately, there are several sources where you can access free images that depict safe infant sleep without copyright restrictions at images you can use. To learn more about infant safe sleep and the importance of images, visit Modeling Safe Practices: A Checklist for Infant Sleep & Breastfeeding Images

Thank you for your consideration to promote infant safe sleep and save babies' lives! For more information, visit www.michigan.gov/safesleep or contact MDHHS-InfantSafeSleep@michigan.gov.

Sincerely,
