MDHHS Issues RFP for Ryan White Part B Funding
May 07, 2015
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued a competitive Request for Proposals to fund Ryan White Part B programs throughout Michigan. Interested bidders should demonstrate proficiency working with people living with HIV to achieve positive health outcomes, and must submit a Letter of Intent no later than Monday, May 11, at 5 p.m.
MDHHS HIV Care Section expects to award grants over the next three years for the period of October 1, 2015 - September 30, 2018, totaling approximately $7 million per year. Annual awards are expected to range from $250,000 to $600,000. Notices of Award are expected to be made in writing by June 30, 2015.
Suppressing the HIV viral load is a priority for helping those who are HIV-positive live a healthier life, especially as this contributes to reduced mortality/morbidity and improved disease prognosis. As the Michigan HIV Treatment Cascade illustrates, the path to viral load suppression starts with the individual learning his/her HIV status, then being connected to an HIV medical home, receiving anti-retrovirals and treatment, and finally, having access to resources that reduce barriers to ongoing medical adherence.
The MDHHS HIV Care Section is the Michigan grantee of the federal Ryan White Part B funds issued by the Health Resources and Services Administration HIV/AIDS Bureau. These funds, disbursed to all states, territories, and associated jurisdictions, aim to provide funding to people living with HIV who have no health insurance, have insufficient health care coverage, or lack financial resources to get the care they need. Ryan White funding fills gaps left by other funding sources and addresses the social determinants of health that contribute to HIV-related health disparities.
