LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is requesting public comment on the amendment for the MI Choice waiver. The MI Choice waiver program provides Medicaid-covered long term care services and supports in a home or residential setting for participants meeting specific medical/functional criteria for nursing facility level of care.
The purpose of the waiver amendment is to implement an independent Nursing Facility Level of Care Determination (LOCD) process to comply with federal requirements. Michigan currently provides the LOCD process through MI Choice waiver agencies. To meet new federal requirements, MDHHS will contract with a vendor through a Request for Proposal to replace the MI Choice waiver agencies in conducting the LOCD. MDHHS has also updated the MI Choice performance measures to comply with federal regulations.
