LANSING, Mich. – As part of its efforts to eradicate human trafficking and provide victims with needed supports for recovery, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is seeking proposals to improve services for survivors of human trafficking.
The department is issuing two requests for proposals (RFPs).
The Community Services RFP is open to public or nonprofit organizations with experience raising awareness about human trafficking or working directly with human trafficking survivors. The purpose is to promote collaboration between organizations to improve services for survivors in their communities. Successful applicants will be eligible for one-time grants of up to $15,000.
Through the Human Trafficking Hospital Emergency Room Pilot Program RFP, hospitals or health systems can apply for a one-time grant of $50,000. The grant is intended to develop and implement a hospital or emergency room protocol for identifying, treating and referring victims of human trafficking that can be used as a model for other health care professionals in Michigan.
Human trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining of a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion, or inducing someone under 18 years old to perform a commercial sex act. In 2014, Governor Snyder signed into law a comprehensive package of bills designed to help eliminate human trafficking in Michigan and to give all victims the opportunity to live safe, healthy, and independent lives.
To apply for the Community Services or Hospital Emergency Room Pilot Program grants, visit the MI E-Grants website. All applications are due on June 21, 2016. Application instructions can be found in the ‘About EGrAMS’ section. Any questions concerning the content of either RFP must be sent via email to Jonathan Breems at BreemsJ@michigan.gov on or before May 27, 2016. MDHHS will compile all relevant questions and answers and post these as well as any other clarifications or revisions to the initial RFP by June 3, 2016, on the MI E-Grants website.
