LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Health Disparities Reduction and Minority Health Section has released two community capacity building Request for Proposals (RFP) focused on violence prevention and data collection.
The RFPs are open to organizations that can demonstrate experience and relationships in working with one or more of Michigan’s racial and ethnic minority populations: African Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Arab and Chaldean Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and Hispanics/Latinos with the goal of achieving health equity for Michigan’s racial and ethnic populations.
Questions about the RFPs can be emailed to Shronda Grigsby at grigsbys1@michigan.gov and must be submitted by Friday, May 11 by 5 p.m. The deadline for proposals is Thursday, June 7, 2018 by 3 p.m.
The violence prevention RFP will fund up to four grant awards totaling $150,000 per year for a period of two-years. Funding is designed to promote collaboration between MDHHS and local health departments, community- and faith-based organizations, tribal health agencies, community health centers and other entities with the goal of supporting projects that identify and implement population specific strategies to reduce the burden of violence for racial/ethnic minority populations. Projects should focus on risk factors at one or more of the identified levels (individual, relationship, community and societal) as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Social Ecological Model for Violence Prevention and utilize a targeted universalism approach.
The data collection RFP is a one-year grant funded initiative that will support up to four grant awards totaling $50,000. Funding is designed to promote collaboration between MDHHS, local public health departments and tribal health agencies with the goal of supporting community-level data-related activities that will improve data access and availability for racial and ethnic minority populations.
