MDHHS partners with GetSetUp to empower Michigan’s older veterans with essential knowledge and resources

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announces customized veteran classes with GetSetUp to enhance the well-being and quality of life for Michigan veterans aged 50 and older.

Beginning with the first class on Dec. 7, this innovative program will offer custom classes tailored to the unique needs and interests of veterans. These classes were designed in collaboration with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) to provide support and enrichment for Michigan veterans. Additional classes will be held in 2024.

"We are dedicated to enhancing the lives of Michigan veterans, and this partnership with GetSetUp is one more opportunity to further support them," said Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director. "We recognize the value of providing accessible resources and programs for our veterans, and these classes are a testament to our commitment to their well-being."

The GetSetUp program will encompass a diverse range of topics, including:

  • Available resources: Offers comprehensive insights into the variety of veteran resources available; ensuring veterans receive the support they deserve.
  • Trust fund for emergency services: Provides clarity on the Michigan Veteran Trust Fund for emergency services, a critical aspect of veteran support.
  • Service organizations: Introduces veterans to the wealth of service organizations dedicated to their well-being.
  • How to use the Veterans Affairs (VA) app: Empowers veterans with the skills and knowledge to effectively navigate the VA app for accessing essential services and information.

The custom series is designed to foster camaraderie among veterans, creating a supportive and engaging environment that encourages active participation.

“We are excited to partner with MDHHS to give our older veterans opportunities to share their experiences with their peers who are also aging,” said Brian Love, MVAA director. “This is a unique opportunity to support and engage with the 550,000 veterans in our state. I hope you will join and participate.”

Lawrence Kosick, the co-founder and president of GetSetUp, said, "We are honored to join forces with MDHHS to support Michigan veterans. Our classes are designed to empower and enrich lives, and we look forward to making a positive impact on the veterans in Michigan."
