Farmers

Senior Project Fresh farmers sell at local roadside stands, farmer’s markets or pop-up markets. Farmers provide eligible participants with locally grown, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, and honey through this program. The program also expands the awareness of local food sources and benefits the local food economy in Michigan.
  • Interested farmers must apply each year to participate as an authorized vendor.

After a farmer applies, they are invited to attend a training, which is required for new farmers. Training includes:

    • How to use the Healthy Together application to process transactions,
    • How to invite cashiers to assist with accepting SPF benefits
    • An overview of the program and farmer responsibilities

    Farmers are responsible for:

    •    Sharing their selling locations with the State of Michigan
    •    Posting the “SPF Benefits Welcome Here” sign each time they have eligible produce and/or honey for sale.

Farmers can also expect visits from State staff for monitoring and evaluation.

    • Check that you meet program eligibility requirements
