What is Senior Project Fresh?
The Senior Project Fresh is a supplemental nutrition program aimed at helping older adults eat healthier as they age.
The program provides nutrition education and a benefit of $25 that can be used to purchase fresh and local fruits, vegetables, and honey sold at authorized farmers’ markets and roadside stands. A one-time benefit is issued (to each eligible household participant) at the beginning of the season onto a benefit card and can be spent throughout the season. The program runs from May 1 to October 31 each year.
What is Senior Project Fresh Lead Agency?
Senior Project Fresh Lead Agencies provide resources and technical assistance to eligible older adults within the county or region they serve.

- Lead Agency recruitment occurs between November 1 – May 1.
- Interested organizations must contact the SPF Program Manager with stated interest at MDHHS-SeniorProjectFresh@michigan.gov.
- Lead agencies must sign a Memorandum of Understanding and Data Use Agreement with the State of Michigan, and abide by all responsibilities listed in the MOU and DUA.
- Lead Agency Responsibilities include:
- Attend an annual training with Senior Project Fresh staff.
- Offer technical assistance resources to assist older adults in completing the SPF online application within a designated county, region or statewide. Technical assistance may be provided over the phone or in-person and may involve answering questions, problem solving, checking balances, or completing an online application on behalf of an older adult.
- Protect Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of participants.
- Agree to be listed as publicly on the Senior Project Fresh website.
- Provide technical assistance from May 1- October 31.
- Comply with all state or federal laws regarding nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

- Contact SPF team with interest and request draft copies of the MOU and DUA documents for review.
- Submit your organization's information including signatory name and contact information to the SPF team.
- Sign MOU and DUA documents.
- Attend annual Lead Agency Training.
