Child & Adolescent School Health Epidemiology
What programs are supported by the Child & Adolescent School Health Epidemiologist?
The Child & Adolescent School Health (CASH) Epidemiologist is the recognized resource for epidemiological analysis and support to the Michigan Child and Adolescent School Health Program, which includes teen pregnancy prevention, school based/linked health centers, school nursing, comprehensive health education, coordinated school health programs, and related activities through the Title V Maternal Child Health Block grant.
Roles and Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to lead epidemiologic investigations used in the prevention and control of health conditions and behaviors among adolescents and school aged children. Investigations are designed to identify, analyze, and report public health issues and problems, resulting in improved monitoring of health status and its correlates, identification of trends, provision of data and information about corrective actions or programs to alleviate adverse health effects, and proposal of practices or polices based on such data and information that will promote and protect public health.
The CASH Epidemiologist is also the recognized resource for the epidemiological components of the Title V Maternal Child Health Block needs assessment, priority setting, performance monitoring, and grant reporting processes. They also assist in evaluating program performance and priorities as well as improving data collection and data use, obtaining funding to conduct such activities, and fostering active collaboration with other maternal-child health organizations.
