River Raisin

River Raisin Area of Concern (AOC)

The River Raisin AOC is located in the southeastern Lower Peninsula and discharges into the western basin of Lake Erie at Monroe Harbor. Contamination of the area has been due to historical discharges of heavy metals, grease and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). These discharges have been associated with steel, motor, aluminum and paper mills in the area, as well as local landfill discharges and agricultural runoff.
