ADMINISTRATION

The mission of the Quality Assurance Section is to insure that quality analytical data is provided which is accurate, reliable and adequate for its intended purpose within a desirable time frame. The Section's ultimate intention is to enable management to monitor and evaluate effectiveness of policies and procedures for quality control, proficiency testing, personnel competency and patient test management that results in an infallible laboratory operation.

The Quality Assurance Section directs and coordinates the activities of three units within the Bureau of Laboratories which report directly to the laboratory director and service all Divisions within the Bureau. These three units are Data and Specimen Handling, Laboratory Support and Quality Control.

DATA AND SPECIMEN HANDLING UNIT

The Data and Specimen Handling Unit (DASH) is responsible for receiving, accessioning and performing data entry on incoming clinical specimens and for distributing completed test result reports.

LABORATORY SUPPORT UNIT

The Laboratory Support Unit is responsible for providing the public and Bureau of Laboratories, upon request, Clinical Specimen Mailers in direct support of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services many diversified programs.

QUALITY CONTROL UNIT

The Quality Control Unit is responsible for maintaining the quality control program within the Bureau of Laboratories.  Our focus is to assure that the laboratories meet and exceed guidelines set forth by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 2003 for non-waived laboratory testing.

WET MOUNT CONTROL SUSPENSIONS

The Quality Control Unit provides assistance to the Regional Laboratory System in meeting the requirements of CLIA 2003 for waived testing.

The Quality Control Unit will provide to members of the Regional Laboratory System, upon request, a deactivated bacterial and yeast suspension to be used as a control for the microscopic examination of wet mounts.
