Birth Hospitals - My Role
Birth hospitals play a crucial role in newborn hearing screening programs, which are designed to identify hearing loss in infants as early as possible. Early detection of hearing loss is important because it allows for timely intervention and support, which can significantly improve a child's language development, communication skills, and overall quality of life. Birth hospitals play a pivotal role by:
- performing hearing screenings before discharge
- collecting and reporting data in accordance with state law (Act No. 31 Public Acts of 2006)
- referring infants for repeat testing as needed
- providing support and education to families
