What is Family Planning?
Family planning services provide information and the means for men and women to exercise personal choice in determining the number and spacing of their children. Authorized under Title X of the Public Health Service Act, the Family Planning Act of 1970 was the first US statute to provide authority, funding and support for comprehensive and voluntary family planning services to all who want and need them. The Michigan Family planning program provides contraceptive services and reproductive healthcare to low income men and women.
Basic Principles
The Family Planning epidemiologist position is funded by Title X federal funds.
Family Planning Epidemiologist Roles & Responsibilities:
This position provides epidemiological support to the Department, the Bureau of Epidemiology and Population Health, and the Bureau of Family Health Services and is the recognized resource on all epidemiologic matters concerning the Title X/Family Planning Program. This includes epidemiologic study design, statistical analysis, technical expertise, program evaluation, and policy and program development. This position plays an important role in identifying and then advising on the epidemiological priorities in collaboration with program staff. In addition, the Family Planning Epidemiologist actively collaborates with other maternal child health programs as well as other MCH epidemiologists.
