May 26 2026 Portable X Ray Suppliers Reminder
May 26, 2026: Attention Providers: As a reminder, Medicaid covers transportation and set-up services for claims submitted by qualified Portable X-ray Suppliers (PXRS) when provided in accordance with Medicaid policy. PXRS claims may include up to four components:
- transportation when x-ray equipment is taken to the location where services are performed, including a nursing facility,
- set-up of the equipment,
- administration of the x-ray (technical component), and
- interpretation of the x-ray (the professional component).
No transportation charge is payable unless the portable x-ray equipment was actually transported to the location where the x-ray was taken.
Enrolled PXRS providers must report claims for services with a Medicaid enrolled billing provider and the Medicaid enrolled ordering provider. Reporting of a rendering provider on the CMS 1500/ASC X12N 837 5010 professional format may cause the PXRS claim to deny. Refer to the Independent Diagnostic Testing Facilities and Portable X-ray Chapter of the Medicaid Provider Manual for additional information.
