The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has summarily suspended the podiatric medicine and surgery license of Sharon A. Stewart, D.P.M., based on her felony conviction in the 46th Judicial Circuit Court of Otsego County. Stewart failed to report her conviction to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.
On August 17, 2005, Stewart was convicted of Arson-Dwelling House, a felony. As a result, Stewart was sentenced to a minimum of five years in prison, with 355 days credit and ordered to pay fines, crime victims’ rights fee, costs and restitution totaling $379,938.
On December 27, 2005, MDCH issued an order immediately suspending Stewart’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional’s license upon the conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years or a misdemeanor involving the illegal delivery, possession or use of a controlled substance. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Stewart’s podiatric medicine and surgery license.
