LANSING - The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) - in conjunction with its partners in local public health across the state - will celebrate Michigan Public Health Week April 11-17. This year's theme, "Safety is No Accident: Live Injury Free," embraces the concept of creating a healthier nation by taking action within your community to promote safety and prevent injuries and violence. If every person takes steps to protect their family, neighbors, and communities from harm, the U.S. will be a much safer place to live.
MDCH and it partners will highlight the week at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 at its annual Hometown Health Heroes celebration in the Capitol Rotunda. During the event, the department and its partners will recognize seven "Health Policy Champions" for their efforts in championing public policies to improve the health and safety of Michigan residents. MDCH also will recognize various individuals and groups of Hometown Health Heroes who have worked collaboratively to make their communities healthier places to live and grow.
"I am honored to be able to help recognize and celebrate our Health Policy Champions and Hometown Health Heroes," said MDCH Director Olga Dazzo. "Whether they are shaping public policy to protect vulnerable adults or developing youth injury prevention programs, these individuals and groups help make each Michigan community a safer place to live. Their personal and professional dedication to safety is commendable."
