2012 Senior Citizens of the Year Honored at State Capitol
June 26, 2012
LANSING - The Michigan 2012 Senior Citizens of the Year, Marie Taylor of Jackson and Johann Friedrick Ingold of Sault Ste. Marie, were honored for their outstanding community contributions at the June 20 Older Michiganians Day event at the Michigan State Capitol. Each year awards are given to two older adults for exemplary community service and leadership by the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging (OSA) and Commission on Services to the Aging.
"With their high energy, selflessness, and keen determination to help others, Ms. Taylor and Mr. Ingold are true inspirations for all of us," said Kari Sederburg, director of the OSA. "At 97 and 85 years young respectively, it was a privilege to honor these two individuals who represent volunteerism at its very best."
Taylor, nominated by Vista Gran Villa Health Center, was recognized for her exceptional work as a patient advocate, while also offering companionship and ongoing help to fellow residents. Among her many accomplishments is her work with the No One Dies Alone program that provides comfort to those in their final days who are without family and friends. To meet Ms. Taylor is to understand hers as a true face of compassion and caring for others.
Ingold, of Sault Ste. Marie, was nominated in the category of leadership by the Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action Agency. He was recognized for, among his many accomplishments, his ability to garner funding for a wide variety of community projects. A man of quiet humility, Ingold has spent a lifetime of commitment to improving the quality of life for people of all ages in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula.
Taylor and Ingold each received a congratulatory letter from Governor Rick Snyder, and a generous $1,000 check from Consumers Energy, a partner of OSA in making these awards.
