$1.2 Million in Grants to Help Prevent Child Abuse in Michigan
February 13, 2015
LANSING, Mich. – The Children’s Trust Fund (CTF) Board of Directors has approved $1,224,091 for Direct Services grants to seven Michigan community-based organizations to support local child abuse prevention initiatives.
All grantees will be funded over a four-year period. The winning grant proposals were selected through a competitive bid process from among 17 proposals submitted.
“We congratulate the seven successful grantees that emerged from an extremely competitive process with many more excellent proposals than we were able to fund,” said Mike Foley, CTF executive director. “We will work closely with our new grantees to build the kinds of protective factors for children and families that we know make meaningful differences.”The seven organizations receiving funding are:
- Berrien County Health Department-$175,000: Triple P Positive Parenting Program
- Bethany Christian Services-$175,000 (Ottawa): Safe Families for Children
- Cadillac Area OASIS/Family Resource Center-$175,000 (Wexford/Missaukee) Expanded Parents As Teachers (PAT) Home Visiting program
- Family Service & Children’s Aid-$175,000 (Jackson): Enhanced Nurturing Parenting Education Program
- Keweenaw Family Resource Center-$174,679 (Baraga/Houghton/Keweenaw): Ready, Set, Grow! Utilizing the PAT program
- Michigan State University Extension – Saginaw-$174,412: Expanded Building Early Emotional Skills (BEES) program
- Oakland Family Services-$175,000: PAT program
The purpose of Direct Services grants is to fund community-based child abuse prevention programs and services. The grants support families that have risk factors or challenges that could impact positive parenting and optimal child development. Strong emphasis is placed on assuring that funded initiatives are appropriately integrated into broader community plans for serving children and families.
The newly funded initiatives, combined with other multi-year grant commitments and the statewide network of local councils, means CTF is currently providing more than $1.7 million annually in support of children and families throughout Michigan.
