Michigan BioTrust - Announcements
The Michigan BioTrust for Health program has updated its consent brochure to provide clearer information about the dried blood spot destruction schedule. This brochure supports healthcare providers in facilitating the informed consent process.
The updated brochure is now available in English, Spanish, and Arabic. To access the new versions, visit the Michigan BioTrust for Health – Educational Resources and Community Outreach webpage. To order copies, visit the Newborn Screening Supplies webpage.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) established the Michigan BioTrust for Health in 2009 to manage the storage and research use of blood spots collected during newborn screening. Because nearly every Michigan infant undergoes newborn screening, the number of people impacted by the BioTrust is immense, reaching all populations. Up to 16 seats on the BioTrust CVAB are filled by community and disease advocacy organizations. In addition, three Member at Large (MAL) seats are reserved for members of the general public. The MAL seats are for any Michigander with a strong interest in the BioTrust. These seats allow individual voices to provide input in the development of BioTrust polices and community engagement activities.
Applications are currently being accepted to fill one open MAL seat for the 2025-2026 term. Applications are due to the BioTrust program by January 20, 2025. If you are interested in applying for a MAL seat, please complete the online BioTrust CVAB MAL application.
If you have any questions about the role of the CVAB or the application process, contact Michele Fritz, the BioTrust Coordinator, at FritzM3@michigan.gov or at 517-335-6497.
