Where To Get Immunized
Where to get Vaccinated
Start with your medical home - the doctor's office, clinic, or health center where you regularly receive care.
If your medical home is unable to provide vaccinations, other options include:
- Local Health Department
- Pharmacy
- Community Clinics
- Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)
Vaccines for Children
Most health insurances cover vaccinations for children.
Children under 19 years old may qualify for vaccines through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program if they meet one or more of the following:
- Enrolled in Medicaid
- Uninsured
- Underinsured (has health insurance but coverage does not include recommended vaccines or covers only selected vaccines)
- American Indian or Alaska Native

Immunization locations dashboard
A VFC provider desert is a geographic area where residents do not have reasonable driving access to a VFC provider. On the map, these deserts are shown as unshaded (white) areas.
- Urban consists of large central metro, medium metro, and small metro.
- Suburban consists of large fringe metro.
- Rural consists of micropolitan and noncore.
Technical Notes: Sites were selected from the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) if they were marked as active VFC program sites. Birthing hospitals were excluded. Urbanicity data was obtained from the 2013 National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Urban-Rural Classification Scheme for Counties. The six levels of urbanicity identified by the NCHS were combined into three levels for this analysis:
Drive times were calculated using the “Generate Travel Areas” tool in ArcGIS Online, calculated as the area that can reach a VFC site driving toward the site within the specified time. We set the specified time to 15 minutes for VFC sites located in counties classified as urban or suburban and 30 minutes for VFC sites in counties classified as rural. Areas that fell outside of the combined drive time areas were considered VFC deserts.
