November SNAP Benefits FAQ

  • Yes, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) received notification from the federal government’s Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) that because of the federal government shutdown there may be a delay with November SNAP benefits.

  • Per USDA Food and Nutrition Services, due to the federal government shutdown there will be insufficient funds to pay for November SNAP benefits if the shutdown continues. MDHHS is deeply disappointed in this situation and will do whatever it can to blunt the impact on Michigan residents.

  • Currently, there is only an expected delay for November benefits. We will continue to monitor the situation. 
  • If you have SNAP benefits on your Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card from previous months, you will still be able to use those benefits.

  • Yes, once FNS notifies MDHHS that we are legally allowed to release November SNAP benefits, they will be loaded onto your EBT card.

  • Yes, FNS has advised that households should continue submitting applications.

  • Yes, MDHHS specialists will continue to process SNAP redeterminations and case changes.
